Virginia Tuition to Increase 5.2 Percent on Average This Year
Undergraduate students at Virginia colleges and universities will see tuition rates rise an average of $544 in the 2014-15 school year.
Undergraduate students at public four-year schools will see a tuition increase of about $544, or 5.2 percent, for the 2014-15 academic year, the State Council of Higher Education of Virginia announced Wednesday. Virginia community college students will see an increase of $180, an increase of 4.6 percent.
Virginia ranks 11th highest in the nation for the price of doctoral/research tuition and 6th highest for comprehensive institutions, according to the State Council on Higher Education for Virginia.
Over the past decade, tuition costs have more than doubled in Virginia. The cost of tuition and fees for a public university in Virginia averaged around $4,764 compared to $9,361 in 2013, according to SCHEV data.

Virginia Tech - up 4.9% to $12,017 - increase of $562
College of William and Mary - up 14.2% to $17,656 - increase of $2,193
Christopher Newport University - up 5.0% to $11,646 - increase of $554
UVA-Wise - up 4.2% to $8,868 - increase of $359
James Madison University - up 5.3% to $9,662 - increase of $486
