Loudoun Sheriff Warns of Youth Fund Phone Scam
Sheriff Chapman informs residents that the office does not solicit donations by phone.

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office has issued an advisory warning residents of a possible phone scam in which a caller claims to be collecting donations for a law enforcement youth fund.
The advisory highlighted one case in which a Loudoun resident received an unsolicited call and the caller claimed to be collecting donations for the local Sheriff’s Office, or some other law enforcement entity, for a troubled youth program. The resident recognized the call as a possible scam and did not send any money. Investigators determined that the phone number used was a Voice over IP number that likely originated overseas.
“The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office does not solicit money from residents or conduct fundraisers over the phone,” said Sheriff Mike Chapman. He advises residents to never provide personal or financial information if you did not initiate the contact.
