Downed Tree Limb Shuts Down Power For 2,850 Lorton Homes and Businesses

It caused a small fire along Route 1 this morning

Power has been restored to 2,850 Lorton homes and businesses after a tree limb fell on power lines at the intersection of Armistead Road and Richmond Highway.

The limb fell at 10:51 a.m., and the downed lines sparked a small ground fire, which was extinguished by Fairfax County firefighters. Dominion Virginia Power restored power to all affected customers by 11:45 a.m.

"When the tree limb came down, the wire was still energized at that point and when it hit the grassy area below it caught on fire," said Le-Ha Anderson, a spokesperson for Virginia Dominion Power. "Our crews are almost finished working on site to replace the wires and get them restrung."
