Here are the top three stories in Lorton today:

  1. On Mar. 7, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a proposal to increase their salaries by a significant margin. The vote was 8-2 in favor of the raise, which would result in county supervisors earning between $125,000 and $130,000 per year, and Chairman Jeff McKay earning between $140,000 and $145,000 per year. Currently, McKay has a salary of $100,000. The decision will undergo a public hearing on Mar. 21 before it becomes official. (ABC 7 News)
  2. Shannon Evans and Sulekha Subhash, teachers at Thoreau Middle School and Luther Jackson Middle School respectively, have received Fulbright Teachers for Global Classrooms Program awards. The awards will allow the teachers to share knowledge and foster connections across communities both in the United States and abroad. As Fulbright recipients, they will engage in research, expand their networks, and become active supporters of international exchange upon their return to the United States. (Press Release Desk)
  3. The former site of Lorton Community Action Center was demolished on the morning of Mar. 6. The center wrote on its Facebook page that day, "This quick moment invoked strong memories of great devotion and plainly made clear we have solidly entered an exciting new phase of our mission to enhance the quality of life of southeastern Fairfax residents." The community will continue to be served at its new building adjacent to the old site. (Lorton Community Action Center (LCAC) via Facebook)
