Junior League Of NoVA Helps Launch 'Period Pantry' At Lorton Center
The Junior League of Northern Virginia, through its partnership with the Lorton Community Action Center, helped to launch a "period pantry."

LORTON, VA — The Junior League of Northern Virginia, as part of its partnership with the Lorton Community Action Center, is helping to launch a "period pantry" at the center, which will provide at least 8,000 period products to the center’s clients over the next year.
The mission of the Lorton Community Action Center is to enhance the quality of life for clients by providing food, basic needs, and self-sufficiency programs.
“The Lorton Community Action Center has had a longstanding relationship with the Junior League of Northern Virginia, which has supported our work over the years of providing food, basic needs, and self-sufficiency programs to the greater Lorton community,” Rob Rutland-Brown, executive director of the Lorton Community Action Center, said in a statement.

"The donations from the Junior League of Northern Virginia will ensure women have access to necessary period products whenever they need them,” Rutland-Brown said.
This new initiative is part of the League’s new focus on providing essential services and professional development training opportunities for women and families in the local community.

Statistics show that 20 percent of women in the Washington, D.C. area live in poverty —and lacking access to period products is often a hidden consequence.
"Our partnership will provide much needed period products in our local area and really embraces our new focus area," Junior League of Northern Virginia President Michelle Freeman said in a statement.
The Junior League of Northern Virginia is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving the community through the action and leadership of trained volunteers. The League has been serving the Northern Virginia area for 65 years.
The new Lorton Community Center at 9520 Richmond Highway houses the Lorton Community Action Center.
