Food For Neighbors is currently partnering with 47 schools to provide supplemental nutrition to 8,300 middle and high school students in Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudoun counties. We would love for you to join us in the fight against teen food insecurity. Sign up to become a Red Bag food/toiletry donor or a hands-on volunteer today! Our next Red Bag Event is Saturday, September 14th.

Red Bag Food and Toiletry Donors

We always need more food and toiletry donors. To be a donor, please sign up several weeks before the first Red Bag Event in which you’d like to participate. Once registered, you’ll receive invitations to provide a bag of food and toiletry donations for each of our five massive Red Bag Events held every school year. It’s so easy, and we pick up donations from your doorstep!

  • Request a Bag: Visit our website to learn more and register as a food and toiletry donor. A Food For Neighbors volunteer will drop off a Red Bag with a tag noting our grocery list and collection dates.
  • Fill Your Bag: The next time you’re at the grocery store, shop for some of the items on the grocery list.
  • Leave Your Bag Out: On the requested dates, put your food and toiletry donations in your Red Bag and place the Red Bag on your doorstep. A volunteer will collect your donations and leave you a new Red Bag for the next collection. The volunteer brings your donations to the nearest of nine working sites, where additional community members sort the food and toiletries and deliver them to participating schools near you.

Hands-on Volunteers

During each of our Red Bag Events, we’re engaging between 800 and 900 Arlington, Fairfax, and Loudoun County community members in collecting, sorting, and delivering over 25,000 pounds of food and toiletries to our 47 participating schools in just a few hours! We love seeing individuals and families as well as teams from businesses, organizations, and other groups working side by side to help local students in need. Individuals and families may visit our website to register to receive a SignUpGenius to support work in the operational area nearest their home. As groups have members residing in various locations, they should instead complete this form.
