Laurel Hill Hosts Club Championship This Weekend

Premiere NOVA track in top form for late summer competition

Members of the Laurel Hill Golf Club tee it up this weekend for the fourth annual Club Championship. The stroke play tournament will feature some of the best golfers from the South County area.

Rick Gemmer is back to defend his title, but Laurel Hill General Manager Kirk Mason expects Dave Myers and Robert Kinder to be in the hunt on the back nine on Sunday. "All three players are single-digit handicappers, so there is no clear cut favorite," Mason says.

Laurel Hill plays at a lengthy 7,010 yards, so distance off the tee will be critical to stay in contention. By this point in the season players are usually in top form, so scores should be at or near par. The difference, as in golf tournaments at every level, will come down to who is swinging the smoothest putter.
