Lorton Library Benefits from Wish List
Fairfax Library Foundation lets customers meet specific needs

When Tanya went to Lorton Library to check-out a current bestseller, she found that there were no copies available and that the holds list was very long. She decided to buy her own copy. That’s when she learned that her purchase could also benefit other readers.
“Tonya purchased the book through the Fairfax Library Foundation’s Amazon.com Wish List,” said Lorton Library branch manager Susan Larson. “The program provides needed titles to the library, while at the same time giving the purchaser the option to be the first to read the new copy,” she said.
Librarians determine which books to place on the Foundation’s Amazon.com Wish List based on titles in high demand and those most needed by the library. “When customers purchase additional copies it helps meet a specific need and reduce hold times for fellow customers,” Larson said.

The Library Foundation’s Wish List shows how many copies of each title the library is requesting and how many already have been purchased. Customers order directly from Amazon.com, choose to which library the books are to be delivered, and receive notice from the Library Foundation that their tax-deductible donation was received.
The Fairfax Library Foundation is a private, nonprofit corporation committed to providing supplementary support to the Fairfax County Public Library.
