Science fiction film buffs will want to check out the screening Saturday of the 1927 epic "Metropolis" with live music provided by percussionist Tom Teasley.
The Plot
The futuristic city of Metropolis seems idyllic and carefree. But Freder Fredersen, the son of the city's mastermind, discovers an underground network of the city workforce—poor, overworked and overtaxed people living hopeless lives. Society is sharply divided, and soon Fredersen falls in love with a prophet who foretells of a savior who will reunite the disparate factions. A crazed inventor then kidnaps Fredersen and creates a robot in his image, which wreaks havoc on Metropolis and the working class. What's to be done?
