Motorist Dies When Car Rear-Ends 18-Wheeler In Lorton: Reports

The driver of a Toyota Corolla died Wednesday morning in a collision with a tractor-trailer on I-95 near Lorton Road, say media reports.

LORTON, VA — The driver of a Toyota Corolla died Wednesday morning, July 10, on Interstate 95 when the car rear-ended a tractor-trailer and slid under the back of the rig, according to media reports. The accident occurred at about 7 a.m. on southbound I-95 near the Lorton Road exit, radio station WTOP reported.

The Amazon Prime 18-wheeler had stopped on the right shoulder of the highway, and the Toyota ran off the far right lane and struck the back of the rig, say media reports.

The car's driver was pronounced dead at the scene, the Virginia State Police said Wednesday. They did not release the driver's name, age or hometown.

The state police slowed down traffic and closed the two right lanes on southbound I-95 approaching Lorton for several hours Wednesday as an an accident reconstruction team investigated the fatal collision, WTOP reported.
