Yesterday, Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) made official what many suspected was already the case: the new Middle School will be opened in September 2012 rather than January 2012. At a officials brought the issue before citizens and recommended a September opening. The decision was based primarily on the disruption that would be created by having hundreds of students change schools in the middle of the year, in addition to substantial logistical changes will need to take place. The overwhelming number of citizens in attendance shared this view. Program discussions and the naming of a building principal will occur in Fall 2011. The naming of the building will occur in Spring 2012. A boundary study is expected to begin in Spring 2011 by the Facilities Planning Advisory Council which will then make a recommendation based on the boundary study to the FCPS Board in late 2011 or early 2012.
