The held it's annual spring gala on Saturday evening, and the non-profit raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for impoverished Lorton families.
"It's been a fun night," said LCAC executive director Linda Patterson. "From our sponsorships and ticket sales alone we took in almost $120,000. The funds help kep food in the pantry, pays for adult ESL classes, gas for our trucks, and, it will allow us to restart the LCAC's elementary after-school program in the fall."
The gala, which was at Harbour View on the Occoquan River, began at 6:30 p.m. with hors d' oeuvres and a silent auction, followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m., a brief award ceremony, and dancing to music by the Johnny Artis Band.

The LCAC could still use donations. "Our pantry is straining to meet the needs of the more than 160 families each week who are coming to LCAC for food," said Patterson. "We are running low on a few items: breakfast cereal, rice, cooking oil and canned fruit."
