The South County girls basketball dropped its season-opener last night on the road to powerful Oakton, 74-49. The Stallions were competitive in the second half, but not enough to recover from a 44-24 halftime deficit.
Oakton, which was coming off a 90-20 blowout victory over Langley, is one of the top-ranked teams in the region. Their balanced offensive attack and defensive strategy—which held Stallions star Simone Antwi to two points--proved to be too much for South County to overcome.
Senior Alex Brown scored 12 to lead South County, all of which came on three-point shots. Freshman April Henson added 11 in her varsity debut.
