VA Truck Driver Wins $50K Powerball Lottery Prize In Maryland
A Virginia truck driver won a $50,000 portion of the Powerball jackpot in Maryland, lottery officials said Tuesday.
LORTON, VA — A Virginia truck driver won a $50,000 portion of the Powerball jackpot in Maryland, lottery officials said Tuesday.
The 35-year-old Lorton resident bought the winning ticket on Oct. 22 at a 7-Eleven at 8101 Fenton Street in Silver Spring. It was a quick-pick ticket for 10 drawings from Oct. 22 to Nov. 12.
“Like everybody else, I had been buying Powerball tickets back home as the jackpot kept getting bigger,” he told Maryland Lottery officials. “It just happened that work took me into Maryland that day. A right place, right time kind of thing.”

The drawing took place on Oct. 22.
“I never expected to hit that jackpot, never expected to win much at all. So, $50,000 is a huge surprise and such a blessing,” the Lorton resident said.

The winner said he and his wife are discussing using the winnings to purchase a new car.
