The goal of the home-grown Manassas Park event is to raise money for supplies for Cougar Elementary School students, said Audrey Baldwin, director of the race.

Sign up for the race on the Cougar Elementary School website.

This year, the goal is to raise $12,000 to buy electronic handheld tablets at a cost of $200 each.

Local businesses have pitched as race sponsors and hosts of fundraising events.

The final fundraiser before the race is on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Bowl America on Mathis Avenue in Manassas.

Cougar students are still doing their part by working hard to meet their reading goals, Baldwin said.

Students who meet their goals are awarded a limited Cougar Literacy Run t-shirt.
