Manassas Park Business Open Despite Two-Alarm Fire

Early morning fire causes $200,000 to $300,000 in damage to Captiol Building Supply on Euclid Avenue.

A Manassas Park supply company was open for business Thursday, though an early morning two-alarm fire caused more than $200,000 in damage to the rear of the structure.

The fire was discovered at about 1 a.m. by Manassas Park Police who were doing regular checks in the area and noticed smoke coming from Capitol Building Supply located on the 8400 block of Euclid Avenue, Manassas Park Interim Fire Chief Todd Lupton said.

Firefighters were on the scene in about a minute and called for additional resources after seeing a large volume of fire, Lupton said.

Prince William County and Manassas City firefighters assisted in bringing the blaze under control in about 45 minutes, he said.

No occupants or firefighters suffered any injuries despite the high humidity, which can cause problems for those fighting the blaze.

Humidity coupled with the fact it was still 80 degrees at two in the morning can affect firefighters, so they have to stay well hydrated and rest often to prevent injury, Lupton said.

The cause of the fire is accidental and has been linked to an electrical issue, he said.

The fire caused a lost of $200,000 $300,000 for the business, which produces lumber, building supplies and construction components.

The damaged was mainly in the rear of the building in the warehouse area, but the front of the building was relatively unharmed.
