Manassas Park Firefighters Raise More Than $25,000 for Charity

Those days of standing in traffic in the blazing August sun were all worth it—Manassas Park Local 2757 surpassed their goal of raising $25,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association through their Fill the Boot Campaign.

Perhaps you saw them passing through the lines of cars at the traffic signals of Manassas Park's busiest intersection of Centreville Road and Manassas Drive, collecting money in fire boots in the last days of the month.

Manassas Park Local 2757 of the International Association of Firefighters raised a total of $25,481.50 which eclipsed their goal, said Manassas Park Police Capt. Joel Oberlin, who is also president of 2757.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association has partnered with firefighters around the country for the past 58 years and has raised more than $450 million since 1954, according to a Manassas Park City Council proclamation recognizing the campaign.

Officials said 100 percent of donations go to the Muscular Dystrophy Association which uses the money to aid in the fight against 43 neuromuscular diseases  and send children to camp and educate the public about the disease.
