Manassas Park High Staff To Visit the Homes of Freshmen Today

For the first time in the school's history, faculty will personally visit the homes of some 204 freshman to welcome them to the school.

We can’t promise there won’t be any “kick me” signs or, fake directions to a classroom on the roof on the first day of school for Manassas Park High freshmen next month, but we can say they will receive a warm welcome from the school’s staff, starting today.

Sixteen teams of teachers, administrators and other faculty will go out into Manassas Park this afternoon and visit the homes of more than 200 of the city's incoming high school freshmen to personally welcome them to the building, Charles Forrest, assistant principal of Manassas Park High said.

Staff will visit the homes of about 204 students between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Each team of three will hand out special welcome packets with important information, said Dr. Bruce McDade, superintendent of Manassas Park City Schools.

This is the first year for the initiative, McDade added.

Let's hope the wise-guy upperclassmen will take a hint from the grownups, veer from the freshmen initiation traditions and extend the hand of fellowship to the new ones.

We know they will, we don't expect anything less of Manassas Park.
