Manassas Park Resident Opens Indian Restaurant in Centreville

Manassas Park's own Raj Kapoor is the owner of Indian Ocean Restaurant which specializes in Goan seafood and North Indian cuisine. The restaurant is in Centreville.

A new Indian restaurant recently opened at 5639 Stone Road in the Village Center shopping plaza in Centreville, Manassas Park's neighbor to the north.

Indian Ocean specializes in Goan seafood and North Indian cuisine. Restaurant owner and Manassas Park resident Raj Kapoor said he is emphasizing nutritional food in a traditional Indian style, and purchases many ingredients locally.

“The style of cooking we have is Ayurvedic. The ingrediants are local, farmers’ market vegetables," said Kapoor. "We use mostly organic vegetables and we go three times a week to the farmers’ market."

Kapoor relocated Indian Ocean to its current space in Centreville at the end of June. Previously, there were two restaurants open: one in Fairfax and one in Washington, D.C. Kapoor, a Hindu Indian who grew up in Afghanistan, said he wanted to work closer to his home in Manassas Park, where he's lived since 1988.

Kapoor has been in the restaurant business since 1991, when he opened a restaurant, Viva Italiano, in Springfield. He first opened an Indian Ocean location in Fairfax about eight years ago, followed by a location in D.C. two years later.
