Manassas Park Sees Population Decrease: U.S. Census Estimates

Latest U.S. Census figures suggest the Manassas region is growing, but outside of Manassas Park.

MANASSAS, VA — The City of Manassas saw an increase in the city's population last year, according to new estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Census Bureau. But Manassas Park had a decrease in the population.

The Manassas 2015 population is estimated at 41,764, that's up more than 400 residents from the 2014 estimate. Manassas Park dropped from 15,805 to 15,726.

It is the second year the city has seen a modest decrease in population. Manassas Park had an estimate of more than 15,900 in 2014.

New numbers released by the Census Bureau on Thursday include population estimates for all local cities and towns.

In Northern Virginia, the Town of Leesburg crossed the 50K population threshold for the first time, with an estimated population of 51,209.

The biggest municipality in the Commonwealth is Virginia Beach, with 452,745.

It's still much larger than any other municipality, with Norfolk, Chesapeake and Richmond all under 250,000.

Census estimates for the number of housing units for cities and counties were also released. The City of Manassas added more than 100 units, with 13,491 total.

The City of Manassas Park had a slight increase to 4,906 units. Prince William County added more than 1,000 units last year, with a total of 145,848.
