Missing Cockatiel's Owner Makes Donation in Finder's Name

The donation was made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

A $500 donation was made to the Wounded Warrior Project in honor of Daniel Kelly, the Centreville resident who found L,  said Joy Crickenberger, Lewis' owner.

some 10 miles away from his home 10 days after he disappeared, Crickenberger told Patch Wednesday.

Crickenberger said Kelly was instrumental in saving Lewis; he contacted Fairfax County Animal Control to make sure the bird was safe.

"He has refused a reward because of his generous nature and just wanting to do the right thing. I wished there were more people like him in this world," Crickenberger said.

She decided to make a $500 donation to the Wounded Warrior Project in Kelly's name. He should receive a card from the organization in a few weeks, she added.

Lewis remains at Pender Veterinary Hospital in Fairfax for treatment.
