Speedy Green Car Wash Helps Local Women Raise Money for Cancer Awareness

A very special group of women will be at Speedy Green Car Wash in Manassas Park this weekend raising money for a good cause.

 Shirl’s Girls, a team of 11 women, most of whom are residents of Manassas Park, are raising money to participate in the Susan G. Komen Walk for the Cure in Washington D.C. in September.

 To support the ladies, Speedy Green Car Wash is featuring the walk as its charity of the month.

 Selecting code 3003 at Speedy Green’s auto teller will donate 20 percent of the purchase to Shirl’s Girls.

 Each woman needs to raise $2,300 to participate in September’s walk said Shirl Girl Christine Stone.

 Several of the women will be at the car wash this weekend to bring awareness to their cause, Stone said.

 Even the members’ children get involved in the fun, she said.

Her 10-year-old daughter came to the car wash and managed to convince several patrons to upgrade their car wash so they could raise more money for the walk, Stone said.

 Every woman has her own personal reason for being apart of the group and wanting to participate in the Walk for the Cure, said Stone, a colon cancer survivor.

Shirl’s Girls  was started by Bobbi Beers, whose mother, Shirley, is a three-time cancer survivor, Stone said.

 The group is named in honor of Shirley Beers.

 The team has already raised about $3,680, but needs additional help to reach their final goal of $18,400.

And the team doesn’t plan to stop after the March Speedy Green fundraiser ends.

The fourth annual Boob-a-cue pig roast is slated to be held May 7 at Signal Hill Park in Manassas Park.
