Here are the top three stories today in Norfolk:

  1. On Tuesday evening, the Norfolk City Council voted 6-1 to approve a $308,000 retirement payout for Norfolk Police Chief Larry Boone. Councilman Tommy Smigiel voted against the resolution because it was unclear to him whether it was Boone's decision to retire. Smigiel added that some people would say it looks like a severance package. (The Virginian-Pilot)
  2. This week, nearly a half dozen mobile surveillance cameras were placed every few blocks along Granby Street in downtown Norfolk. The mobile camera units were requested by the Downtown Norfolk Civic League after a shooting on Mar. 19 left three people dead and two injured. City Manager Chip Filer said the cameras are a force multiplier and will be moved around the city depending on the need. (WAVY.com)
  3. Samaritan House will unveil a mural in the Norfolk Railroad District today from 5:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. to commemorate Child Abuse Prevention Month. The local organization teamed up with local artist Parrish Majestic who has painted several murals in Virginia Beach and Norfolk. Samaritan House officials said they hope the mural will raise awareness of child abuse prevention. (WAVY.com)
