Here are the top three stories today in Norfolk:

  1. Construction crews found a "surprise" cannonball while bulldozing sand at the Willoughby Spit beach Tuesday morning. The Norfolk Police Department and Norfolk Fire & Rescue were called to the site after the object was found. The cannonball was deemed not hazardous and recovered for disposal by the Air Force Explosive Ordnance Disposal. (13newsnow.com WVEC)
  2. Hundreds of sailors on the Norfolk-based USS Forrest Sherman are coming home today. The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer will arrive at Naval Station Norfolk after a three-month deployment in the European theater of operations. While deployed the ship operated under the direction of Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 22. (13newsnow.com WVEC)
  3. Kimahni "G-Stacks" Lankford, the Norfolk man accused of shooting 1-year old Honesty Brehon with an AK-47 style weapon, was deemed "not competent" to stand trial. Police say the gunshot wounds destroyed Brehon's reproductive system and left her with a colostomy bag, damage to her eyes, a deformed foot, and one hip. Lankford is scheduled to reappear in court on Jul. 16 for another competency evaluation hearing. (WAVY.com)
