Here are the top three stories in Norfolk today:

  1. An overnight crash in the early hours of Sunday morning caused multiple injuries and damage to several businesses. Police arrived in the 1000 block of North Military Highway near International Boulevard to discover at least two buildings, a Subway and a Chinese restaurant, had been impacted by the crash. Multiple people were reportedly taken to the hospital, but officials have not released any details on the individuals involved or the extent of their injuries. (WAVY.com)
  2. The Norfolk Academy has been named the best private school in the Norfolk and Virginia Beach area and No. 4 in private K-12 schools across Virginia by education website Niche. Niche used a letter grade system to rank local schools in areas like academics, teachers, and diversity. The Norfolk Academy received an A+ in all but one category (diversity, for which it received a B+). The school reportedly boasts a 100 percent graduation rate, an average SAT score of 1320, and an average ACT score of 31. (Newsbreak)
  3. The Chrysler Museum of Art has recently opened an exhibit called "The Guiding Hand," a celebration of the traditional Jewish yad. The yad, derived from the Hebrew word for "hand," is the pointer used to help a Torah reader keep their place while preventing them from touching the sacred scroll. The personal yad collection of Clay Barr is now on display at the Museum through Aug. 14. The exhibit includes nearly unique 150 pieces, ranging from a 1700s yad piece from English silversmith Hester Bateman to a more modern yad carved by Norfolk sculptor Spencer Tinkham.
