- Last Wednesday, the Norfolk Naval Shipyard broke ground for the renovation of Dry Dock 8. The $300 million renovation will include saltwater upgrades as well as caisson and dewatering repairs. As NNSY’s biggest project in its history, the renovation will be a multi-year project. (WAVY.com)
- Several Norfolk employees expressed concern about the train that crashed in Ohio. Ahead of the devastating toxic train derailment in Ohio, recently revealed evidence shows that Norfolk Southern employees were concerned about the size and weight of the train. Residents of East Palestine, Ohio, are still distrusting of Norfolk, though. (WBOC TV 16)
- Sentara Norfolk General is working to help those in the community impacted by gun violence. The hospital runs the Foresight Program, a violence intervention program serving as a support group for gunshot victims and their families to help them get resources. - On Wednesday, a double shooting on Greenleaf Dr. in Norfolk occurred. The shooting took place on the 1500 block of Greenleaf Dr. around 6:00 P.M. Two people were taken to the hospital; one had life-threatening injuries. Both are expected to survive. (13newsnow.com WVEC)
- A car chase ended in Norfolk on Thursday. Police began their pursuit of the suspect in question in Newport News and continued into Norfolk, where the chase came to an end near Church Street at Brambleton Avenue and Virginia Beach Boulevard. - Norfolk Police are looking for a missing elderly woman. 79-year-old Hazel L. Williams was last seen in the 900 block of Scott Street around 2:30 p.m. on Feb. 14. She is believed to suffer from dementia and is in need of medical assistance. Hazel was last seen wearing a floppy-brimmed hat, burgundy shirt, black leather jacket, tan pants, and black boots. - The City of Norfolk is sponsoring a small business non-profit town hall meeting series. No RSVP is required. The first event will take place on Feb. 22 at the Richard J. Tucker Memorial Library. (Press Release Desk )
- NPD needs your help in identifying two burglary suspects. On Feb. 10, the Pitbull Tobacco store reported an alarm call. Surveillance shows two men inside the store burglarizing it.
