Boys Lacrosse: Cougars Head to Region Semifinals

Oakton defeats Annandale in second round of Northern Region Tournament on Friday

With a 12-7 victory over the Annandale Atoms on Friday, the Oakton High boys lacrosse team advanced to the Northern Region Tournament semifinals. 

Michael Gillooly led the Cougars in scoring with four goals, closely followed by Sean Schweiker who tallied three goals and two assists. Cory Harris and Jeremy Marshall each netted two goals and notched one assist. Stephen Lambrides also scored a goal, while Evan Lalande, Logan Ambrose, Jack Harris and Brian Oliver each had an assist.

The win brings them one round closer to the region title than last year when they lost to Langley in the second round. The Cougars will seek vengeance for last year's loss Wednesday, as they will again meet the Saxons en route to the Northern Region Championship.

and sitting two wins away from a Northern Region title, the Cougars are continuing a successful postseason many would not have predicted after they finished fourth in the Concorde District standings at the end of the regular season. 

The Cougars will look to continue to defy expectations when they play the Saxons at home 7 p.m. Wednesday.
