Though Coach Todd Spitalny and the Oakton High boys soccer team headed into Concorde District play not expecting to win every game, so far they have done just that — the latest a 4-0 victory over Centreville on Monday night.
The rout came about a week after the Cougars earned a one-goal victory over fellow Concorde foe Herndon in a back-and-forth battle.
"We know that going undefeated in the Concorde is not realistic," Spitalny said. "In my opinion, Centreville is the toughest test for us because of the way that they play. With Connor Coward up top, he's extremely dangerous. ... So to come out with a 4-0 is huge for us. It wasn't expected by any stretch."

On Monday, the Cougars began scoring within 10 minutes when freshman Jimmy Filerman knocked in a goal on an assist from senior Abdi Abdi.
But after the quick goal, neither team would score until junior Christian Ollen's goal off a corner kick from junior Jay Bundren within three minutes of the second half.

"We stopped playing the ball in the air. We stayed away from the center," Spitalny said. "The difference was the first half we kept trying to play through our midfield and they were taking that away from us. So we had to start going to our sidelines and then come back to our midfield. We varied the way we played, and that's what pulled us through."
About 10 minutes later, junior Sep Zomorodi shot from a couple yards out, which was knocked down by the Centreville goalkeeper Kurtis Michaels. Zomorodi regained possession and, with Michaels on the ground after the save attempt, was able to take an open shot for the Cougars' third goal.
Patrick Moore capped off the Cougars' point total with a goal that ricocheted off the goalkeeper only to bounce over his head and slowly roll between the goal posts.
With a commanding 4-0 lead, the substitutes came in for the last 12 minutes to continue to hold the Wildcats scoreless.
Logan Cropper, starting goalkeeper and a senior, had eight saves. Senior Adeeb Baiou had two.
"Our substitutes really stepped up throughout the game. We all had tired legs from games for our club teams this weekend, and they played well," Filerman said. "I think later in the season when everyone's got tired legs, the substitutes will be ready to step up and keep us in the game."
The Cougars (7-1-1) will travel to Chantilly on Wednesday for another district contest.
