Bring the Ballpark to Your Living Room This Season

These jazzed up franks cover all the bases.

Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Andre Taylor’s Tasty Tidbits!

The boys of summer have clocked in and the 2011 baseball season has arrived! Besides football season, this is my favorite sports season. To welcome in this baseball season the right way, I will share my favorite way to dress up a hot dog with you all.

This hot dog delivers a grand slam to make you a winner in your own home. Here’s what you will need:

  • 1 pack of turkey hot dogs
  • 1 pound of thick sliced bacon
  • 1 medium yellow onion
  • 1 pack of potato bread hot dog buns
  • 3 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoon of olive oil
  • Mustard
  • Barbecue sauce

Now that we have everything we need, let’s get these dogs fired up!

Place several pieces of bacon onto an ungreased cookie sheet and rub the brown sugar onto each piece of bacon. Set the oven to 325 degrees and placed the bacon in for 15 minutes.

While the bacon is baking, dice the onion. In a large pan on the stovetop pour the olive oil in and set the burner to a medium temperature. Dump the dices onion into the pan and sauté them until golden brown. This should take 7 to 9 minutes.

In a separate pan on the stovetop, pour some olive oil into it and place the pan over a medium-high flame. Pan-fry the turkey hotdogs until they begin to brown all the way around. This should take 12 to 15 minutes.

Once the bacon, onions and hotdogs are all done, it’s time to bring everything together.

First, open the bun and place a piece of bacon in each bun. Then place the pan-fried hot dog in next followed by the sautéed onions. To top it off, add some mustard and barbecue sauce.

Now you won’t be able to make it to all of the games, but this will help you enjoy the game on television.

If you try this recipe, take a picture and email me at andre.taylor@patch.com and let me know how it turned out for you. If you have another recipe you want to share with me, send that along.

Until then, keep on burnin’! Oh yeah, PLAY BALL!!!
