Flint Hill School Delays School Opening

Headmaster notifies parents first day of school will postpone in anticipation of Hurricane Irene

Flint Hill School has delayed the start of the school year in anticipation of power outages from Hurricane Irene.

The school will be closed Monday, postponing registration and orientation activities by a day. Full classes for the Upper School will begin Tuesday. Full classes for junior kindergartners through eighth-graders will begin Thursday.

John Thomas, headmaster of the Oakton private school, sent an email to parents notifying them of the delay.

"We will not know the full impact of Hurricane Irene until Sunday, but historically, these storms have left many without power," Thomas wrote in the email. "We are concerned if we wait until Sunday to make a decision about Monday’s activities, many people will have lost power, and will not be able to receive the School’s message."
