Girls Soccer: Chantilly Ends Oakton's Undefeated Run

Cougars shut out in first loss of the season

With their lead scorer sidelined, the Oakton High girls soccer team lost to rival Chantilly 3-0 on Thursday for the Cougars' first loss of the season.

Maintaining possession for the majority of the game, the Chargers scored their first goal with about 19 minutes left in the first half. They tacked on a second goal a few minutes into the second half, and then a third goal with just minutes left on the clock.

Danielle Fitzgerald, a senior forward who leads the Cougars with 11 goals this season, could not play because of injury.

"Without her being able to stretch the field, the field was shorter," Coach Dylan Forshay said. "We hadn't had that obstacle yet. For the amount [of space] we created, I'm not disappointed. We've played 10 games this year and we've lost one, so you're not going to get too many complaints out of me."

Though the loss is the Cougars' first of the year, Forshay said it is a loss he can live with because he is confident the girls will make the necessary adjustments to be successful with or without Fitzgerald on the field.

"We don't play until next Thursday, so schematically we can figure out how we're going to put our lineup and how to play and we'll be fine," Forshay said.

The Cougars (7-1-2) will travel to Robinson on April 26 for a 7 p.m. game.
