Girls Soccer: Cougars' Title Dreams Cut Short in Sudden Death
Robinson defeats Oakton with a goal in the second Sudden Death

The Oakton High girls soccer team battled its way into its , this time for a devastating 3-2 loss to Robinson Secondary to end their run at a repeat Concorde District title.
The Rams came out strong and scored on a breakaway within the first three minutes of the first half. They scored again within the next 10 minutes on another breakaway and scored to go up 2-0.
The Cougars then ramped up their offense, starting with a pass from Caroline Coyer to Alex Meyers, who placed a perfect shot on goal to cut the deficit in half. Then with only a few minutes left in the first half, the Cougars drew a foul in the box. Meyers took the penalty kick to tie the score 2-2 going into half.

The Cougars came back strong in the second half and outplayed Robinson throughout the half with shots at the goalkeeper and on goal, but the game remained tied at the end of regulation.
The game stretched into overtime, with both five-minute overtimes and one five-minute Sudden Death not enough for either team to score. But with 35 seconds left in the second Sudden Death, a well-placed corner kick deflected off a Cougar to a Ram, who kicked it in for the game-winning goal.

Cougar goalkeeper Alex Weaver had 10 saves in the game.
The Cougars continue their season with an automatic berth into the Northern Region Tournament. They will play the second seed in the Liberty District at 7 p.m. Tuesday at their opponent's field.
