June 13-19: Girls Lacrosse Coach Fired; FBI Put Tracker on Suspect's Vehicle Before Bank Robbery

A week after bringing her team to the state championship game, Jean Counts, the Oakton girls lacrosse coach, was Friday after 14 years and three state championship titles.

Details from the bank robbery at BB&T in Oakton in court documents. Edward Martin Andrews, of Bladensburg, Md., was arrested and charged in connection with the robbery. The vehicle Andrews drove in the pursuit after the robbery had an FBI tracker attached to it the day before.

Eighteen nonprofits based in Oakton had their tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service because they did not file their annual tax returns, as required by a 2006 federal law.

At the Fairfax County Republican Committee meeting, at-large school board candidates presented their platforms in hopes of an endorsement. Steve Stuban — whose 15-year-old son committed suicide in the midst of going through the FCPS disciplinary process, sparking a movement to reform the student handbook — , but his job prevents him from political activity, so Supervisor Pat Herrity and School Board Member Patricia Reed (Providence) to the FCRC on his behalf.

Before hearing the at-large candidates, the FCRC candidates for the district school board races. Patricia Reed and Sheila Ratnam were endorsed in Providence and Sully, respectively.

American Legion Post 180 coach Frank Werman to prepare his players for college baseball by mimicking some of the techniques and strategies used at the college level.

Werman's son, Keith,  the headlines after his University of Virginia baseball squad qualified for the College World Series. Keith, an Oakton High graduate, plays second base for the Cavaliers. On Sunday, Keith the first run of the game and knocked in a run, going 2 for 4 in the first game of the series.
