Korean War veterans will gather at the Korean War Memorial in Washington, D.C. on Saturday to honor those who served in the Korean War and commemorate the 60th anniversary of the armistice that ended the war.
The Department of Defense 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Committee is ensuring that veterans who cannot make it to the national ceremony will be able to watch the televised event at their local VFW Posts, surrounded by their families, fellow veterans and community members at "Pancakes for Patriots" events open to the public. These events will feature a live stream of the “Heroes Remembered" ceremony and will feature a special salute to Korean War Veterans, recognition of UN Allies, a ceremonial wreath laying and a symbolic silencing of the guns both in D.C. and Seoul, South Korea.
“While age and distance, unfortunately, will prevent many Korean War veterans and their families from attending the event in Washington, they can take part in, ‘Pancakes for Patriots’ viewing events at their local VFW Posts,” Joe Davis, Director of Public Affairs for the national Veterans of Foreign Wars said in a statement. “This is a great opportunity to educate local communities about the service and sacrifices made by so many of our Korean War veterans and their families.”
“Korean War veterans are now in their 80’s and fought in a war deemed Forgotten,” Colonel David J. Clark Director, Foreign Intelligence, Army DCS G-2 and Director of the 60th Anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Commemoration Committee said in a statement. “This could be one of the last chances we have to recognize these veterans and show them that their sacrifice is important.”
In Northern Virginia, VFW Posts are located in Springfield , Fairfax Station, Woodbridge, Arlington, and Alexandria.
