Oakton Otters Undefeated, Win NVSL Dive Division 2

Oakton Otters beat Walden Glen on Tuesday evening in final dual meet of the season, send divers to championship meets.

It was a late night on the Oakton Swim & Racquet Club diving boards on Tuesday evening, but the Otter divers persevered. The Otters beat Walden Glen in their final dual meet of the season (44 to 28) and with an undefeated record (5-0) they are the 2021 NVSL Dive Division 2 champions.


The Otters took first place in the following categories: Freshman Girls-Mackenzie Martin (58.1); Junior Girls-Isabelle Whang (127.95); Junior Boys-James Hayden (89.75); and Intermediate Boys-Brendan Doe (158.85). The Otters swept the top three places in Freshman Girls (Lauren Emerick-second; Chelsea McLenahan-third).


The other Otter divers who placed were: J.J. Roberts (Freshman Boys-second); Christopher Whang (Freshman Boys-third); Charlotte Henderson (Junior Girls-third); Collin Henriques (Junior Boys-third); Samantha Shuster (Intermediate Girls-second); Jon Anthony Montel (Intermediate Boys-second); Sophie Whang (Senior Girls-second); Katie Vaughan (Senior Girls-third); Spencer Dearman (Senior Boys-second); and Josh Shipley (Senior Boys-third).

The Otters will send 16 divers to the Division 2 championship meet on Sunday, which they are also hosting: Chelsea McLenahan; Simone Wilson; Caleb McManus; Benji Whang; Isabelle Whang; Leo Estes; Thibault Lede; Megan Shipley; Sammy Shuster; Brendan Doe; Jon Anthony Montel; Katie Vaughan; Sophie Whang; Spencer Dearman; Josh Shipley; Nico Shuster; Alternate: Blaise Wuest.


The Otters also sent 19 divers to the Crackerjack meet on Sunday, July 18, held at Fairfax Station. The Crackerjack meet is the largest developmental dive meet in the country and this year there were a total of 434 divers who participated. The Oakton divers who placed (top 6 finishers) at that meet were: 7 Year Old Boys: Gabriel Wilson-3rd; Tyler Kroopnick-4th; 8 Year Old Boys: David Wright-1st; 9 Year Old Boys: Alex Lee-1st; 10 Year Old Boys: Connor Timm-1st; Malcolm McClenahan-2nd; 11 Year Old Boys: William Wright-1st; Connor Gil-6th; 12 Year Old Boys: James Hayden-1st; 13&Over Boys: Zac Lee-3rd.

The NVSL Division 2 dive championship meet will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday at the Oakton Swim & Racquet Club.
