Spend Your Saturday in Oakton: A Guide
Plenty of kid-friendly activities to keep you in town today

Want to enjoy the last dregs of sun and warmth, but don't want to venture too far from home? Oakton is full of activity today to keep you and your family entertained from morning till night.
Start at the to celebrate Fire Prevention Week. County stations will be hosting open houses from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Firefighters and paramedics will have displays and activities emphasizing fire safety, including preventing fires and fire injuries, according to the Fairfax County Department of Fire and Rescue.
Then head down to Vale Schoolhouse — at the intersection of Fox Mill and Vale roads — for from noon to 4 p.m. The fair will feature a mini farmers market hosted by Smart Markets co-founder Jean Janssen, games sponsored by Girl Scouts, a used book sale, and tables featuring local organizations — including Oakton Patch — and Vale Club groups.

End your day with a performance from the Oakton High School marching band. The school is hosting the 27th annual Oakton Classic, which brings 15 marching bands from schools all over the state and will feature an exhibition from the Bowie State University band. The competition begins at 1 p.m. Oakton High will perform at 5:30 p.m., and Bowie State will perform at 6:30 p.m. The awards ceremony begins at 7:10 p.m.
