Volleyball: Cougars Sweep for Tourney Win
Oakton High goes 5-0 in Northern Virginia Volleyball Association Invitational

The Oakton High volleyball team dominated in the Northern Virginia Volleyball Association Invitational over the weekend, sweeping opponents 5-0 to win the championship.
The Cougars won 10 of 11 sets over five matches, their only dropped set in the championship game against South County.
In the first three matches, the Cougars cruised to 2-0 victories. They defeated Falls Church in 25-7 and 25-9 set wins. After battling South Lakes in a 28-26 set, they finished their win with a 25-10 second set. The Cougars defeated Lake Braddock 25-17 and 25-20 to advance to the semifinals.

The Cougars started the semifinal match against Westfield, a Concorde District opponent, down 10-4 but closed the set with a 21-4 run to win 25-14. A 25-17 win in the second set sent the Cougars to the finals against South County.
After a 25-19 win in the first set, the Cougars dropped their only set of the tournament 23-25. The Cougars bounced back in the third set, going on a long run with Misa Mori, a senior outside hitter, serving to win 15-9.

Mori earned tournament MVP honors with 40 kills and a team-high 33 digs.
Three other Cougars were named to the All-Tournament team. Emma Olson, a senior setter, had 20 kills and 21 digs; Tara Willkins, a junior opposite hitter, notched 16 kills; and Christina Williams, a junior libero, tallied 32 digs and 10 aces.
Other notable stats:
- Olson led the team with 99 assists and 12 aces and added 21 digs.
- Bri Goodwin, a senior middle hitter, had 14 kills and 4 blocks.
- Karina Nyman, a sophomore middle hitter, added 17 kills.
- The Cougars tallied a total 133 kills, 122 assists, 41 aces and 142 digs, and put up a 0.280 hitting percentage.
