Werman Maintains Fan Favorite Status at UVA

Expect crowd to roar when Oakton grad takes field in NCAA baseball tournament

Keith Werman, a 2008 Oakton High graduate, has maintained a fan favorite status in his college career, as he and the University of Virginia Cavaliers begin play in the NCAA baseball tournament, the Washington Post reports.

"I guess they like the way I hustle," Werman told the Post of the crowd applause when he takes his place at second base.

His fans call him The Ninja for his stealthy style of play,  as the Cavaliers entered the College World Series for the second time in three years.

On Saturday, the top-seeded Cavaliers will host the No. 4 seed Army at 1 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Werman, a second team All-ACC selection, enters the game with a national-best 25 bunts and a .273 batting average. At second base, he holds a .991 fielding percentage.

As the school's record-holder for most career sacrifice bunts, Werman will be a vital part of the Cavaliers' strategy to rely on small-ball to make it back to the College World Series, the Post reports.
