Metro Silver Line Averages 15,000 Weekday Riders During First Two Months
The latest Metro line addition services thousands each day.

The Metrorail’s largest expansion since 1991, Silver Line, has a ridership of thousands every day.
After less than two months of opening, Silver Line has reached 60 percent of the 25,000 boardings its projected to make within its first full year.
The new line services an average of 15,000 riders and makes 30,000 trips to or from the five new stations on weekdays.

“On weekday mornings, nearly 10 percent of riders entering at the five new Silver Line stations are bound for stations in Maryland, and 17 percent of the riders exiting at the five new Virginia stations start their trips in Maryland,” Metro General Manager and CEO Richard Sarles said.
With 16,800 weekday entries and exits, Wiehle-Reston East makes up around half of Silver Line’s ridership.

The Metro estimates that around 6,000 new riders are added to the rail system every weekday as a result of the new Silver Line. Approximately 9,000 Silver Line riders had switched over from Orange Line.
“In addition to being a great way to travel in Virginia and DC, we are pleased to see the Silver Line is also connecting the region more broadly,” Sarles said.
