Blood Drive At Vienna Business Seeks To Boost Blood Supply Ahead Of Christmas

VIENNA, VA — Vienna business Social Burger is known for its craveable food and the various ways it gives back to the community. The latest effort will be hosting its last blood drive of the year before Christmas as Inova Blood Donor Services grapples with low blood supply.

The business is looking for residents to sign up for its blood drive on Dec. 23, from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. All those who donate will get a free milkshake from Social Burger. The blood drive will benefit Inova Blood Donor Services and is being held in partnership with Somervilles Homes.

Time slots to donate blood are available.

Inova Blood Donor Services' website says it is experiencing a critically low blood supply. The hospital system's service said blood donations are needed year round, but supplies tend to run low around the holiday season. Inova typically needs whole blood, red blood cell and platelet donations from 200 people every day to support patients in the DC region.

The blood donation process typically takes an hour, including less than 15 minutes for drawing blood. Inova Blood Donor Services provides information to donors to prepare for the donation process.
