VIENNA, VA — The start of the library renovation project is getting closer, and Vienna Town Council gave approval to one of the final pieces in the design phase.

FFX Now reported that the Town Council approved site plan modifications and a landscape plan for the reconstructed library and parking garage, the town's last major approval for the project. The current Patrick Henry Library will be renamed Vienna-Carter Library, honoring the multiracial Carter family that helped get an integrated Vienna library.

Between the reconstructed library's larger square footage and the new parking garage, structures will have a larger footprint on the library property. Among the approved zoning modifications were closer setbacks of structures to Maple Avenue in the front and Vienna Elementary in the back as well as a lower tree canopy than the town standard.
