Scoreboard: Despite Loss, Madison Girls Basketball Still Atop District
After victory over Warhawks, Stone Bridge goes on to defeat Marshall by just one point

Coming off its Friday loss to Stone Bridge, the first loss in nine games, the Madison High School girls basketball team bounced back with a 52-40 win Monday against the McLean Highlanders.
With the victory Madison retains sole possession of first place in the Liberty District at 8-1. The team is 13-4 overall.
Using a deliberate offense, McLean edged to a slim 6-5 first period lead. Madison kept the Highlanders in check through much of the second period with tight defense and a patiently executed offense to take a 17-9 lead at halftime.

The Warhawks started the second half on fire, outscoring the Highlanders 22-12 in the third period to take an 18-point lead. McLean continued to work hard throughout the game but could not overcome the large deficit as Madison cruised to victory.
Junior guard Megan Henshaw led a balanced Warhawk scoring attack with 16 points, including three 3-pointers. Freshman forward Kelly Koshuta scored 12 points and collected 4 rebounds and sophomore guard Katie Kerrigan had 9 points and 2 steals. Junior forward Kelsey Ross had a solid all-around game, scoring 6 points, pulling down 4 rebounds and playing tough defense against McLean’s tall and aggressive post players. Junior point guard Megan LeDuc orchestrated the Warhawk offense, distributing 7 assists and scoring 5 points. Junior guard Jonee Finney and freshman guard Jana Tremba rounded out the scoring for the Warhawks with 2 points apiece.

Junior forwards Lexi Slotkoff and Lisa Murphy led the McLean Highlanders with 11 and 9 points respectively. Sophomore guard Cami Prock also chipped in 8 points.
The Warhawks prepare to travel to Marshall High School on Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. cross-town matchup.
Stone Bridge Edges Marshall By A Point
Marshall High School's girls basketball team lost the lead to Stone Bridge early Monday night and never recovered despite scoring 26 points in the final quarter, just one point shy of what they needed for a tie.
Marshall started out strong but trailed the rest of the game. They held Stonebridge's star player, junior forward Murielle Tiernan, to 16 points after she scored 39 against Madison the previous Friday.
Marshall players Rachel Waldron, Christine Labarbera and April Reinhart led the Statesmen defense. Leading in scoring was Maddie O'Beirne with 16 points (including four 3-pointers) and Annie Greenwood with 8 (including two 3-pointers). Reinhart, Labarbera and Amanda Denny scored 7 points each.
The Statesmen face cross-town rival Madison High School at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
