Marshall High School Field Hockey held on to an early lead to beat Oakton High School 3-2 on Monday, improving their record to 8-1.
The Statesmen shined in the first half, leading 2-0 going into halftime thanks to goals by juniors Madeleine Lewsen and Emily Sexton, assisted by Maddie O'Beirne and April Reinhart, respectively.
Sexton assisted Paige Veoni's goal early in the second half, increasing Marshall's lead to 3-0, when Oakton fought back. The Cougars scored two goals, but it wasn't enough to upset the Statesmen lead.
