Power Restored to Thousands Sunday in Northern Virginia

VIENNA, VA -- More than 20,000 homes across Northern Virginia saw their power restored Sunday afternoon after high winds whipped the region and knocked out power late Saturday and early Sunday.

Winds at Dulles Washington International Airport were clocked at 66 MPH.

By Sunday night, 1,385 homes in Fairfax County, Arlington County and Falls Church were still without power as temperatures began to dip, expected to drop into the 30s, according to the National Weather Service.

Dominion estimates power will be back on by midnight for those still in the dark Sunday night in Fairfax County and Falls Church, but estimates on its outage page that it will be 1 p.m. Monday before those in Arlington see their power returned.

In the Town of Vienna, there were scattered outages Sunday, according to Dominion Virginia Power. Surrounding the Town there were more outages, in the hundreds, especially along Lawyers Road, Hunters Station Road, Twin Branches Road and Stuart Mill Road.

In all, on Sunday, there were 24,672 homes without power across Northern Virginia and 16,182 homes without power in Fairfax County, according to Dominion. Arlington saw nearly 2,000 outages at its peak and was down to about 200 by 9 p.m. Sunday and Alexandria was down to 880 as of about 7:10 a.m. and one home by Sunday night. Falls Church had about 400 homes without power Sunday morning and was down to about 200 by Sunday night.
