Traffic Tangles: Three Lanes of 495 North And South Closed Tonight

Before you head out for your commute or road trip, read about these closures, delays and detours you may encounter along the way.

Three Lanes of Northbound and Southbound I-495 Closed Tonight 

The Beltway (Route 495) in Tysons Corner may be closed down periodically tonight for up to 15 minutes as crews building the new subway line construction the tracks over the Beltway. The three left lanes of both northbound and southbound I-495 will close tonight from 11 p.m. and 5 a.m.
 
The northbound closures will stretch from Oak Street to Route 123, and the southbound closures will occur between Lewinsville Road and Route 123

Eastbound Tysons Boulevard to Close Friday, Saturday Nights

The eastbound lanes of Tysons Boulevard will be closed between Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) and Galleria Drive Friday and Saturday nights, Nov. 4-5, for overhead bridge, pier and station work near the future Tysons Central 123 station.
 
This will also require the closures of the turn lanes on to eastbound Tysons Boulevard from northbound Chain Bridge Road (Route 123), and northbound and southbound Galleria Drive. Generally, these lane closures will begin to be implemented at 9:30 p.m. each night, and will be lifted between 5 and 9 a.m. each following morning.
 
Detours will be in place. Drivers should use extreme caution, pay attention to signage, and obey police direction if traveling around this intersection.
 
Overnight Flagging Operation on Frontage Road at Route 7
 
The Frontage Road connecting southbound Chain Bridge Road (Route 123) and westbound Leesburg Pike (Route 7) will be controlled by flaggers from 9:30 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights, Oct. 31-Nov. 3, and from 9:30 p.m. to 10 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 4.
 
The flagging crews will be in place from approximately 500 feet to 1,000 feet north of Route 7. Dulles Metro crews will be preparing for utility work.
 
Businesses open after 9:30 p.m. (e.g. Clyde's) should be aware of this work, and notify their employees and customers.

• I-495 north to Exit 45A, Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) west: Ramp closed nights through Friday night for bridge painting. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Exit 44, Georgetown Pike (Route 193) west, stay to the left, follow signs to I-495 south, and take Exit 45A, Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) west.
• I-495 north to Exit 46B, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north: Ramp closed Friday and Saturday nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Exit 44, Georgetown Pike (Route 193) west, stay to the left, follow signs to I-495 south, and take Exit 46B, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north.
• I-495 north to Exit 46A, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south: Ramp closed Friday and Saturday nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Exit 44, Georgetown Pike (Route 193) west, stay to the left, follow signs to I-495 south, and take Exit 46A, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south.
• I-495 north from Exit 47, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) to Exit 46, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) Three lanes closed Monday - Saturday nights for paving, sign installation, and traffic shift.
• I-495 north to Exit 47A, Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west: Ramp closed Monday - Saturday nights for traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to continue north to Exit 46A, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south, make a left onto International Dr. south and follow signs to Leesburg Pike (Route 7).
• I-495 south from Oak St. overpass to Exit 49, I-66 west: Three lanes closed nights through Saturday night for bridge painting and demolition. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
• I-495 north to Exit 49B, I-66 east: Ramp closed nights through Saturday night for roadwork. Traffic continuing to I-66 east will be directed to take Exit 49, I-66 west to Exit 62, Nutley St. south, stay to the right and follow signs to I-66 east.
• I-495 south Ramp closed nights through Saturday night for bridge construction. Traffic will be directed to use the I-66 east HOV (left exit) or general purpose (right exits) to access I-495.

• I-66 west to I-495 south - Ramp closed nights through Saturday night for bridge demolition. Traffic will be directed to continue west, take Exit 62, Nutley St. south, stay to the right, follow signs to I-66 east and then signs to I-495 south.
• I-66 east at I-495: Two lanes closed nights through Saturday night for bridge demolition. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 30 minutes after midnight.
• I-66 east HOV (left exit) OR general purpose (right exits) ramp to 
• I-66 east from Cedar Ln. overpass to Gallows Rd. overpass: Two right lanes closed nights through Saturday night for overhead sign installation.

Dulles Roads

• Dulles International Airport Access Hwy. east or west from Hunter Mill Rd. overpass to Beulah Rd. overpass: Left lane closed nights through Saturday nights for ditch maintenance.
• Dulles International Airport Access Hwy. east from Trap Rd. overpass to Leesburg Pike (Route 7): Left lane closed nights through Thursday nights for paving and excavating.
• Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) east to I-495 north Ramp closed nights through Friday nigh tfor parapet wall work. Traffic will be directed to take I-495 south to Exit 46A, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north, stay to the left and follow signs to I-495 north.
• Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) west at I-495: Road closed Monday - Friday nights for bridge painting. Traffic will be directed to take I-495 north to Exit 44, Georgetown Pike (Route 193) west, stay to the left, follow signs to I-495 south and take Exit 45A, Dulles Connector Rd. (Route 267) west.

Leesburg Pike

• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west from Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) to Westpark Dr. Multiple lanes closed nights for utility, bridge and concrete work.
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east from the Dulles Toll Rd. to Gosnell Rd.: Multiple lanes closed Monday through Friday nights for paving, utility and bridge work.
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west to I-495 north: Ramp closed Friday and Saturday nights for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue west, make a right onto International Dr. north, right onto Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and follow signs to I-495 north.
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west to I-495 south Ramp closed nights through Thurday night for steel beam erection. Traffic will be directed to take I-495 north to Exit 46A, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south, stay to the right and follow signs to I-495 south.
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west at I-495: Road closed nights through Thurday night. Traffic will be directed to take I-495 north to Exit 46A, Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south, stay to the left, make a left onto International Dr. south and follow signs to Leesburg Pike (Route 7).
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east at I-495 Ramp closed nights through Thurday night for steel beam erection.
• Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east to I-495 north: Ramp closed nights through Saturday night for paving. Traffic will be directed to continue east, make a U-turn at George Marshall Dr. onto Leesburg Pike (Route 7) west and follow signs to I-495 north. When the ramp from Route 7 west to I-495 north is closed traffic will be directed to continue west, make a right onto International Dr. north, right onto Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and follow signs to I-495 north.

Chain Bridge/Gallows Road/Lee Highway

• Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) north and south at Tysons Blvd.: Turn lanes to Tysons Blvd. closed Friday and Saturday nights for pier work. Traffic will be directed to follow posted detour signs.
• Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south to I-495 south: Ramp closed nights through Wednesday night for pier work. Traffic will be directed to continue south, make a left onto International Dr. south, make a left onto Leesburg Pike (Route 7) east and follow signs to I-495 south.
• Chain Bridge Rd. (Route 123) south to International Dr. Right lane closed Tuesday and Wednesday night for tunnel work.
• Lee Hwy. (Route 29) north or south at I-495: Road closed nights through Saturday night for paving. Traffic will be directed to use a single lane of either Lee Hwy. (Route 29) north or south.
• Gallows Rd. (Route 650) south to I-495 south: Ramp closed Friday and Saturday nights for traffic shift. Traffic will be directed to take Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) east to I-495 south.
• Gallows Rd. (Route 650) north and south at I-495: Right lane closed nights through Friday night for signal work. Expect intermittent full road closures of up to 20 minutes after midnight.
• Gallows Rd. (Route 650) north and south to I-495 north Ramp closed nights through Friday night for signal work. Traffic will be directed to take Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) east and follow signs to I-495 north.

• Dolley Madison Blvd. (Route 123) north at Scotts Crossing Rd.: single left turn lane closed Tuesday and Wednesday nights for guideway work.
• Tyco Rd. east from Leesburg Pike (Route 7) to Spring Hill Rd.: Right lane closed nights through Thursday night for curb work.
• Westpark Dr. east from Jones Branch Dr. to Tysons Blvd: Three left turn lanes closed Friday and Saturday night for bridge work. Traffic will be directed to follow detour signs.
