County Files Second Lawsuit Against DHS

Prince William County demands records of the criminal illegal aliens transferred by the County to the Department of Homeland Security since 2007.

Prince William County government announced Thursday that it intends to file a second lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security concerning the records of illegal aliens transferred over from the county to the federal government.

In a release issued by Chairman Corey Stewart's office, it was noted that "Prince William has transferred more than 4,000 criminal illegal aliens to DHS custody, but DHS has refused to release records concerning the disposition of the illegal aliens to County officials."

The county filed a lawsuit against DHS inquiring about the details behind DHS’ release of , a criminal illegal alien who is suspected of killing a Benedictine Nun while driving drunk in August of 2010.

Prior to that incident, County officials had convicted Montano of DUI, identified him as an illegal alien, and handed him over to DHS for deportation.

“It is frustrating that we as a local government must resort to suing the Federal Government to get information which the public has a right to know and which is vital to our law enforcement efforts," said Chairman Stewart in a prepared statement. "I am disappointed in the lack of cooperation from DHS and I am frustrated with Congress, which has failed to take compel DHS to turn over this information.  Frankly, the Republicans in the House of Representatives are just as dismissive as the Obama Administration on this issue.”
