In Your Own Words: Comments on I-95 Crash

Monday's fatal crash involving a tractor-trailer driver caused quite a buzz

The 2 a.m. fatal accident on Interstate 95 just north of Lorton spurred quite the conversation Monday morning. Some were upset with the lingering traffic delays until 8:30 a.m. while others were feeling the strain of trying to make a four-mile trip that was taking over an hour.

How did the accident affect you on Monday? Our Twitter and Facebook readers sound off:

Twitter follower @MommaNix said this about Monday's accident: "For people who complained about yesterdays bad traffic- please keep in mind a man passed away. Still complaining?"

Kayne Karnbach said, "They probably made it worse by opening the HOV. That probably doesn't make sense on its face, but with the HOV open, it disrupts the slugs...so now you have neither slugs or regular commuters getting to work on time."

Slugs agreed, they said their commutes were stalled by the accident clean-up.

"Yeah, being a slugger, it sucked! The driver just drove around and got onto Rt. 1. Took about 1 1/2 hrs to get to the Pentagon," Wendy Waggy Adams.

Rebecca Dean Lehto said, "Actually 1.5 hours isn't bad. My husband, who also slugs had been at his commute over 2 hours and only made it as far as Edsall Rd. He did say at that point they started going, well, over the speed limit a bit. ;-)" Ivette Hazou agreed with Lehto, and said it took over and hour and a half for her commute from to Springfield.

Casey Coyle pointed out that, "since virtually nobody was picking up this morning for slugs, it's going to be slim pickings on the ride home."

Justin C. Johnson's commute aligned with that of all our other commenters. "Took me almost three hours to get to Navy Yard and left Transit Center at 5:48 a.m. and got into my office at 8:25 a.m."

Later in the day, a severe crash had I-95 southbound closed just after the Dale City exit at the weigh station. All southbound lanes were closed while a helicopter laned on the lanes of travel. Shortly thereafter, lanes were reopened to traffic.
