Week in Comments: Commuting and Parenting

Reviewing what readers are saying on Woodbridge Patch

Each week Woodbridge Patch features the best, most interesting or passionate comments received on stories on the site.

Commuting took top billing this week when the news came out was close to inking a deal with Prince William County regarding commuter parking spaces. When the deal was close to being finalized on Feb. 22 , reader Tony Keiling added his two cents about slugging in the area since 1996:

“If this is the location the county believes will improve residents parking/commuters needs…this purpose [is] incorrect. The slug lanes from the primary source Pentagon and DC must be established to supporting communting (sic) to and from. I suggest using the Hylton Chapel parking location because it does not change the route from PWC and or to the Pentagon/D.C. Wash area; the county should attempt a parking contract with the Chapel. I've slugged since 1996 and do not support picking up and or driving to this location.”

Then, once the deal was finalized and Transportation Secretary Sean T. Connaughton made an additional announcement, the conversation really got going. Readers were surprised to see that the county signed a one-year renewable lease for $288,600 a year. Reader Jan Cunard kicked off the conversation:

“Surely the amount is a misprint -- the taxpayers of PWC should not have to be paying so that others don't have to pay for parking. Let those who park there, pay a fee.”

In our weekly Moms Talk parenting column, three moms discussed . Moms Council member and reader Erin Middlebrooks spoke about her daughter’s positive experience in public school:

"I find that if you talk to some parents who home school they spend a lot of time trashing public schools but in most cases they do not speak from personal experience they usually get information second hand. You will find parents who have had wonderful experiences and parents who have had horrible experiences with both methods. Like I said I am a firm believer that it is a personal choice and as you said if you find that your child is not doing well in the public setting you as the parent have the right to pull them out at anytime and take over."
