Measles Cases Increase To 19 Confirmed In SW Washington

A Portland Trail Blazers game was added to the latest list of possible places a person could have been exposed to the measles.

VANCOUVER, WA - A Portland Trail Blazers basketball game at Moda Center Jan. 11 was added to the list of possible exposure locations for the measles outbreak currently hitting the Clark County/Vancouver/Portland metro region. Public Health officials added the arena in its Jan. 18 update, which also noted the number of confirmed cases has increased to 19.

Clark County Public Health on Thursday announced newly confirmed cases were found in Battle Ground, roughly 130 miles from Tacoma. The latest update now also includes Camas in eastern Clark County.

Of the individuals who've been confirmed, all but one are children. Fifteen of the cases involve kids between 1 and 10 years old, three involve teens between 11 and 18 years, and one involves an adult between 19 and 29 years old.

Sixteen of the confirmed cases were found in individuals who were not immunized. The immunization status of the other three cases remained unverified as of this posting.

Public exposure to measles has been confirmed for an increasing number of locations throughout Clark County and Portland, Oregon, including the Portland International Airport, Moda Center, churches, retail businesses, elementary schools, restaurants, and hospitals.

"Public Health is requiring exclusion of students and staff without documented immunity to measles from schools, child care and other congregate settings," the agency said.
