Measles Outbreak In SW Wash. Balloons To 14 Cases

Clark County Public Health has reportedly confirmed 14 cases of measles in children 1 to 18 years old, 13 of whom were not immunized.

VANCOUVER, WA - The number of confirmed measles cases and the list of places a person may have been exposed to the virus grew significantly Wednesday when Clark County Public Health officials shared its most recent outbreak update.

Since Jan. 1, the agency has confirmed 14 cases of measles in kids and teens aged 1 to 18. Three more suspected cases involving children are still under investigation, the agency said. Of all 14 confirmed cases, 13 reportedly involved non-immunized kids. The immunization status of the remaining case is reportedly unverified.

Of the confirmed cases, 12 involved children younger than 10 years old.

Among the 20 latest possible exposure locations, five are schools and six are health care facilities, the agency said.

"Public Health is requiring exclusion of students and staff without documented immunity to measles from schools, child care and other congregate settings," the agency said.
